Amelia Hennipen is one of two Mrs. Hennipens who live in an old, once-grand, house (Hennipen House) in the small town of Crimson Grove, and each is trapped there for different, but related reasons.

The elder Mrs. Hennipen is failing, and Amelia, her granddaughter-in-law, is her caregiver. Amelia already has help with managing the increasingly difficult tasks, but she needs more help - of a different sort - and hasn't yet realized it.
